Basketball facility setup

Updated August 24, 2026

A basketball gym sells the same floor at three different sizes: full court, half court, and open-gym seats. Below is a complete worked setup for a gym that does all three, plus private lessons and a youth clinic.

What does a basketball gym setup look like?

Here is the entire configuration for a single-court gym that rents whole, rents by the half, runs open gym, and sells lessons.

Seven Resources support five sellable products. The interesting part is that the court appears in three different Events at three different sizes, and Fieldspace keeps them from colliding without a single manual blocking rule.

How do you sell a full court and half courts?

Create three Resources, not one: Full Court, Half Court A, and Half Court B. Then let the resource mode do the work.

How full-court and half-court Events consume Resources
EventPoints atModeEffect
Full Court RentalHalf Court A + Half Court BallConsumes both halves, so neither half can be sold for that window.
Half Court RentalHalf Court A, Half Court BanyTakes whichever half is free; the full court becomes unbookable.

This is the same pattern a soccer facility uses for a field that splits, or a baseball facility uses for turf. One Resource per sellable piece, all for the whole, any for the pieces. The full reference is in event resource modes.

How do you set up open gym with a capacity cap?

Open gym is different from a rental in one way: many people buy the same slot. That makes it an Event with fixed sessions and a capacity cap rather than a bookable window.

Point it at the Full Court so the floor is genuinely held, set the sessions you actually run, and set the cap to your headcount limit. Registrations stop at the cap. Because the Event holds the court through all, no one can rent a half court during open gym.

If you sell punch-pack style access to open gym, that is a membership benefit rather than a separate Event — see plans, benefits, and credits.

How do you attach a coach to a lesson?

Coaches are Resources. A Private Shooting Lesson uses the combo mode to hold a coach and a practice hoop in one booking, so you can never sell a lesson at a time the coach is already teaching.

Pointing lessons at practice hoops rather than half courts is a deliberate choice: it keeps your rentable court inventory free. If your lessons genuinely need a half court, point them there instead and accept that each lesson removes a half court from sale.

Common questions

How do I rent a full court and half courts without double-booking?

Create the full court and both halves as three separate Resources. Point the Full Court Rental Event at both halves with the all mode, and the Half Court Rental at either half with the any mode. A full-court booking consumes both halves, so the halves vanish from availability — and selling one half makes the full court unbookable.

How do I run open gym with a headcount limit?

Open gym is an Event with fixed sessions and a capacity cap. Set the session times you run it, point it at the court Resource, and set the cap to your maximum headcount. Fieldspace stops taking registrations once the cap is reached, and the court is held for that whole window so nobody rents it out from under you.

Should each hoop be its own Resource?

Only if you sell it separately. If you rent individual practice hoops for shooting work, make each one a Resource so a lesson can hold a hoop without tying up a half court. If the hoops only ever come with the court, they are part of the court Resource and do not need to exist separately.

Can the same court host rentals, open gym, and clinics?

Yes. A Resource can be referenced by as many Events as you like. The court can serve hourly rentals, a weekly open gym, and a youth clinic. Whichever books first holds the court for that window, and the others automatically lose the slot.
