Creating events

Updated August 24, 2026

An Event is what a customer picks when they book — the items on your price list. Fieldspace has three kinds: Standard for rentals, Lessons for coach-attached sessions, and Clinic for group programs with fixed sessions and a headcount cap. The kind changes how booking behaves.

What is an Event?

An Event is a bookable item on your Project's page — "Full Court Rental," "60-Minute Hitting Lesson," "Saturday Skills Clinic." Its price and availability are calculated from the Resources it is built on: the courts, cages, lanes, and coaches that only one group can use at a time.

One space usually supports several Events. A single gym floor can carry a full-court rental, two half-court rentals, a lessons Event, and a Saturday clinic — five things on the price list, one floor, and Fieldspace keeps them from colliding.

Which of the three kinds do I need?

Pick by how the customer books. Do they choose their own slot on a space? Standard. Does the session need a person as well as a space? Lessons. Do they join a scheduled group session with limited spots? Clinic.

How to create an Event

  1. Open your Project and click Create New in the Events panel

Events are created from the Events panel on the Project screen — click Create New.

  2. Pick the kind: Standard, Lessons, or Clinic

The kind decides how booking behaves, per the table above.

  3. Attach the Resources it uses

Attach the courts, cages, lanes, or coaches this Event occupies, and set the resource mode — any, all, combo, or combo_choose — which decides exactly what a booking blocks.

  4. Set pricing rules

Prices per duration, day-of-week peak pricing, and member rates. Odd durations are prorated automatically.

  5. Attach any Add-Ons

Add-Ons are extras offered after a time slot is chosen — a pitching machine, extra participants, equipment rental. Each has its own price and quantity cap.

Common questions

What's the difference between a rental and a lesson in Fieldspace?

The Event kind. A rental is a Standard Event — the customer picks an open time slot on a space. A lesson is a Lessons Event — it bundles a coach Resource with a space, so booking it occupies both. The kind changes how booking behaves.

How is a clinic different from a lesson?

A Clinic Event runs at fixed sessions with set times and a capped headcount — say Saturday mornings, 8 spots. Customers join a session rather than choosing their own slot. A lesson is one-on-one time the customer schedules themselves.

Can one court be sold through several Events at once?

Yes, and it usually should be. The same court can sit in a full-court rental, a half-court rental, and a lessons Event. Fieldspace tracks occupancy on the court itself, so the Events can never overlap.

Where do prices go — on the Resource or the Event?

Sellable prices live on the Event, through its pricing rules: prices per duration, day-of-week peak pricing, and member rates. The Resource's hourly rate is the underlying default; what customers see and pay comes from the Event.
