Baseball facility setup

Here is the entire configuration for a mid-sized baseball training facility. Everything below is Resources, Events, and Add-Ons — the four building blocks Fieldspace uses.

Note what this shows that a definition can't: nine Resources support six sellable products, the turf appears in two Events that automatically block each other, and the coach is a Resource exactly like the cage is.

A Resource is anything that can only be used by one booking at a time. For a baseball facility that means three groups:

• Each cage separately. Four cages means four Resources, not one Resource with a quantity of four. Separate Resources are what let a customer book “a cage” while you still know which one they got.
• Turf at every size you sell. If you rent the turf whole and in halves, create all three: Full Turf, Half Turf A, Half Turf B. See the turf section for why.
• Every coach who gets booked. Coaches have availability and can only be one place at a time, which is exactly what a Resource models.

An Event is a line on your price list. The setup above has six, and each one picks a different resource mode depending on how it consumes Resources.

The two cage rentals are separate Events rather than one Event with two durations, because each is its own price-list line. Pricing for both is covered in pricing rules.

This is the setup most facilities get wrong, and it is worth getting right before you take a single booking.

Create the full turf and both halves as three separate Resources. Then point the Full Turf Rental at both halves with the all mode, and the Half Turf Rental at either half with any.

Because a full-turf booking consumes Half Turf A and Half Turf B, the halves disappear from availability for that window automatically. Sell a half, and the full turf becomes unbookable for the same reason. You do not maintain a blocking rule — the Resource math does it.

The same pattern covers a gym that splits into half courts or a field that splits into thirds. Add one Resource per sellable piece, then use all for the whole and any for the pieces.

A pitching machine is not a separate booking — it is something a customer adds to one. That makes it an Add-On: it attaches to an Event, carries its own price, and does not consume a Resource or occupy the calendar.

The test is simple. If it needs its own slot on the schedule, it is an Event. If it rides along with a booking someone already made, it is an Add-On. Buckets of balls, L-screens, and equipment rental all ride along.
