Event resource modes
Updated August 24, 2026
Every Fieldspace Event has a resource mode that decides which Resources a booking occupies: any takes one open Resource, all takes every attached Resource, combo bundles a coach with an open space, and combo_choose lets the customer pick the space. The mode is what prevents double-booking.
What does the resource mode decide?
A quick recap of the two building blocks: a Resource is anything only one group can use at a time — a court, a cage, a lane, or a coach. An Event is what a customer picks when they book — "Full Court Rental," "60-Minute Hitting Lesson."
A full-field rental needs to block both half-fields at once. A court rental just needs any one of your six courts. You tell Fieldspace which by setting the Event's resource mode. The mode answers one question: when a customer books this Event, which Resources get occupied?
Which mode fits which situation?
Start from the situation you recognize, then use the mode named next to it:
| Situation an operator recognizes | Mode |
|---|---|
| “I have six identical courts. The customer just needs one — I don't care which.” | any |
| “Renting the full field means nobody can book either half.” | all |
| “A lesson needs Coach Mike plus whatever cage is open.” | combo |
| “A lesson needs the pro, and the customer picks which court.” | combo_choose |
Four modes: any, all, combo, and combo_choose. Every bookable thing in Fieldspace is one of these four situations.
How does double-booking prevention work?
Fieldspace tracks occupancy at the Resource level, not the Event level. When a booking comes in, the Event's resource mode determines exactly which Resources that booking occupies — and those Resources become unavailable to every Event that uses them, for that time.
Concretely: your "Full Turf Rental" Event is set to all and attached to Half Turf A and Half Turf B. Someone books it for 6pm. Both halves are now occupied at 6pm, so your "Half Turf Rental" Event — mode any over the same two halves — shows no 6pm availability. Nobody maintained that relationship by hand. It falls out of the fact that both Events are built from the same Resources.
The same logic covers people. Coach Mike is a Resource, so a combo lesson that books him at 4pm makes every other lesson needing Coach Mike unavailable at 4pm — even though the cages are all still open.
Common questions
How do I stop two teams booking the same field?
You don't have to do anything — that's what resource modes are for. Every Fieldspace Event declares which Resources a booking occupies, and Fieldspace blocks any other booking that needs one of those Resources at the same time. A full-field rental set to all blocks both half-fields automatically.
Which mode should a plain court rental use?
Use any. With six identical courts and a customer who just needs one, the any mode lets Fieldspace assign whichever court is open. The customer books a time, not a specific court.
What's the difference between combo and combo_choose?
Both bundle a coach with a space. With combo, Fieldspace picks the open space; the customer only picks the time. With combo_choose, the customer also picks which court or cage they want from the options you allow.
Can the same court appear in Events with different modes?
Yes. Court 1 can sit in an any-mode rental, an all-mode full-gym Event, and a combo lesson at the same time. Whichever Event books first occupies the court, and every other Event that needs Court 1 sees it as unavailable.
